£74m player spotted waving goodbye to his fans amid rumours he could sign for Chelsea

One Chelsea target seems destined for the exit door at his current club this summer.

The Blues are expected to be busy in the upcoming transfer window, with it being thought that they could bring in a new goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, attacker and striker.

Yes, it has been claimed that new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso could sign up to five players ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Anthony Gordon’s farewell to Newcastle fans amid likely exit

One attacking player Chelsea are hoping to bring in this summer is Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Chelsea have already approached Gordon, but they were unsuccessful at that time.

Where the winger ends up is anyone’s guess, with a move to Bayern Munich looking more likely. Gordon has already agreed personal terms with Bayern, so this one could move quickly once the Premier League campaign finishes.

Whatever the case, it does seem like the winger will be leaving St James’ Park. At the end of Newcastle’s last home game of the season, journalist Sean McCormick caught what appeared to be Gordon saying goodbye to supporters.

Speaking on Everything is Black and White, he said: “He was in part of the, I’m saying the leaving celebration, he was part of the lap of honour at the end of the game yesterday [Sunday].

“We both saw that he kind of stayed away from the team for quite a while, but he did come over at the Gallowgate End and give the fans who were still in there a bit of a wave. It seemed like a wave goodbye for Anthony Gordon.”

According to another journalist, Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle could request an €85m (£73.5m) transfer fee for the 25-year-old.

Xabi Alonso arrival could give Chelsea boost in Anthony Gordon race

Gordon did not appear to be too keen on joining Chelsea before Xabi Alonso’s appointment as manager. That may still be the case, but Alonso’s arrival makes Stamford Bridge a more attractive destination.

Gordon would have watched Alonso growing up, one of the best midfielders of his generation who won one World Cup and two European Championships.

The Spaniard played on the red half of Merseyside, so he would not have been the former Everton man’s favourite footballer, that is for sure. But Gordon still would have respected him for what he achieved in the game as a player. If Alonso can get in his ear, maybe there is still a chance of Chelsea signing him.
