Everton, Sunderland and Brighton in mix for right-back – Summer transfer very likely

Emil Holm joined Juventus on loan from Bologna in January and could soon end up at Everton, Sunderland or Brighton.

The Old Lady inserted an option to sign the right-back permanently, as Joao Mario went the other way to Bologna.

While the ex-Porto player has done well at the Rossoblu, that hasn’t been the same for Holm. He’s played only seven games in all competitions, having dealt with a muscle injury earlier in the campaign.

Even when fit, Luciano Spalletti hasn’t shown keen willingness to use him.

That is why Holm can now return to Bologna and then end up in England.

Bologna open to sale

Il Resto Del Carlino reports on possible outgoings from the Rossoblu. Joao Mario will go back to Juve and they also expect 26-year-old Holm to return to Bologna.

Despite disappointing in Turin, the Swede has attracted interest from Everton, Sunderland and Brighton.

Bologna, as a result, have no plans to keep him. It is believed there was quite a bit of friction between the player and the club before he departed. They aren’t impressed by his record of muscle injuries and would rather part ways.

Holm has been called up to Sweden’s World Cup squad and this may help Bologna raise his asking price. They will take advantage of that and hope that Everton, Sunderland or Brighton make a good offer.

Everton interest isn’t new

Sport Witness have previously covered Toffees’ attempts to sign Holm.

However, playing in the Premier League might not suit Holm. That is mainly because of his injury worries and how players generally cover more distance in the Premier League. He has picked up five different muscle injuries this season alone.

He has always relied on bombing forward from deeper areas. Holm’s strengths lie in the attacking positions, where he can find the final ball.

Even if he may not cost much, he would present quite a risk for Everton, Sunderland or Brighton. They would be better off signing someone fitter, younger and a player with higher potential.
