Arsenal have been crowned champions of the Premier League after 22 years. Manchester City failing to beat Bournemouth on Tuesday confirmed the Gunners' triumph.
Mikel Arteta and co. lifting the trophy on the final day of the season will bring relief to a lot of fans. Having finished second in each of their last three attempts to win the league, the fans will be hoping this is a sign of things to come.
While the Arsenal players have all been celebrating the win, there has yet to be confirmation on some of their players receiving a Premier League winners' medal.
As per the rules, a player has to feature in at least five league games to be awarded a medal. Previously, it was 10 matches but that rule changed. Almost all of the Arsenal players have met this criteria, including summer signing Christian Norgaard, who has six appearances in the Premier League.
Max Dowman also makes the cut after having notched up five appearances, where he also has a goal and assist in the win over Everton. He becomes the youngest player to win the Premier League title.
Even Ethan Nwaneri made six appearances before his loan switch to Marseille in January, which means he will also be a recipient of the medal.
However, Kepa Arrizabalaga is the biggest name that might miss out on a medal. The 31-year-old shot-stopper joined from Chelsea last summer and played 11 games for the Gunners, but none of them came in the Premier League.
Third-choice goalkeeper Tommy Setford and academy graduate Marli Salmon are two other players, who were part of the first team this season, at risk of not receiving a medal. Setford has just one apperance in the FA Cup this season, while Salmon has yet to make his Premier League debut despite playing four times in other competitions.
Arsenal could still hand medals to Kepa and others
The Premier League hands out 40 medals to the team winning the title. Arsenal are free to hand it out to whoever they deem fit.
There is also the provision for the club to request additional medals. However, the approval normally depends on exceptional circumstances. It remains to be seen whether the Gunners make the extra effort to ensure Kepa and the others also receive the medal.
