Tammy Abraham posts Chelsea message after making history with Aston Villa

Aston Villa secured the Europa League title on Wednesday night after a stunning 3-0 win over Freiburg and Tammy Abraham posted on Instagram, with an indirect nod to Chelsea.

Goals from Youri Tielemans, Emi Buendia and long-term Chelsea target Morgan Rogers saw Aston Villa blow Bundesliga side Freiburg out of the water on Wednesday in Turkey. Unai Emery’s genius continues.

Villa have paid £18m

Chelsea will be hoping they can qualify for next season’s Europa League with a win against Sunderland on the weekend, having given themselves a chance with a solid win against Tottenham on Tuesday night.

Alongside Rogers, former Chelsea striker Abraham lifted the trophy even though he remained an unused substitute. It saw the Blues academy product become the second player in history to achieve one record.

Tammy Abraham becomes the second to ever achieve record

Abraham, who had previously spent a year on loan at Villa from Chelsea, joined the Midlands club in the January window. He’s since scored three goals in 16 appearances, three outings in the Europa League.

While he had little impact on Villa winning the Europa League, Abraham is now the second in history to win all three European titles – the Champions League, Europa League and the Conference League.

Posting on Instagram during Villa’s celebrations, Abraham confirmed: “The set is complete”. Winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 2020-21, he also won the Conference League with Roma in 2021-22.

Plenty responded to Abraham in the comments, including Chelsea legend John Terry, who simply put “congratulations”. Abraham has also won the Italian Super Cup and the European Super Cup.

The other player to win all three European competitions

Interestingly, the other player to win the Champions League, the Europa League and the Conference League also played for Chelsea. Emerson Palmieri won the Europa League with Chelsea in 2018-19.

He was also part of the Blues squad that won the Champions League in 2020-21, before completing the set with London rivals West Ham in 2022-23. Emerson left West Ham last summer to join Marseille.

Cole Palmer and Reece James have both won the Champions League and the Conference League, and if Chelsea qualify for next season’s Europa League, they will have the chance of completing the set.
