Xabi Alonso has refused to rule out the possibility of Enzo Fernandez leaving Chelsea but the Spaniard was adamant "we’ll make a good team."

The former Real Madrid boss has signed a deal to become the next Blues boss, starting next season, but the foundations of his tenure will be laid in the summer transfer market. There is plenty of noise surrounding several of the team's leading lights.

Fernandez is among the most high profile of those with Real Madrid circling for the Argentine, who moved to Chelsea for £107million back in 2023. The player himself has talked up a switch to Spain, which saw him dropped by previous boss Liam Rosenior.

That situation has now been passed on to Alonso and the former Liverpool player was quizzed on the prospect of his leading lights, including Marc Cucurella and Joao Pedro, leaving Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to El Chiringuito Alonso simply replied: "Well… this is football, and we’ll make a good team."

Alonso's decision to join Chelsea did come as a surprise to some with the Spaniard long tipped as a future Liverpool boss. The Reds have endured a difficult season but their former player is no longer available after the Blues acted quickest to secure his services.

The former Bayer Leverkusen boss has cited Chelsea as "a great project" despite their well documented struggles under their current ownership. The west Londoners have flown through managers and spent huge sums, but been unable to mount a genuine title charge.

Chelsea's failure to qualify for the Champions League could impact on their recruitment and retention plans. The lack of revenue could force them into a sale with a number of their top players linked with moves away.

Fernandez would likely command a similar fee to the one he cost and Cole Palmer, who has not hit the levels he did in his debut season, has been linked with a Manchester United move. Chelsea would make a considerable profit on the playmaker if they did choose to cash in.
