For West Ham, it was a 3-1 loss against Newcastle United at St James’ Park, while Spurs, playing two days after the Hammers, fell to a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea despite needing just a single point to ensure their Premier League status ahead of next season.
That latest run of results now leaves a lot riding on Sunday’s fixtures. For Tottenham, it is a clash against Everton, who sit 12th in the table and have little but pride to play for.
The Lilywhites, on the other hand, have everything to lose heading into the final gameweek of the season.
Should Roberto De Zerbi’s men suffer defeat and West Ham beat Leeds United in their own game, Spurs will be relegated to the Championship. A draw or win, meanwhile, will guarantee Tottenham’s safety.

Spurs home record against Everton could prove decisive
