Here is the xG from the Man C game. The game felt exciting and end-to-end, but there weren’t many actual chances in the opening half. Doku had an early chance for Man C (rated 1 in 10), which was the visitors’ best chance, whilst Evanilson had a chance that was easier to score following good build-up play (3 in 5) but looked offside. AFCB scored with their next attempt. Another well-worked move saw the ball progress from the defensive third to Truffert, who had overlapped on the left wing. He picked out Kroupi, who effortlessly curled it into the far side netting (1 in 19). At the interval, the xG was AFCB 0.63, Man C 0.27.
Man C could only be better in the second half and immediately had a big chance when O’Reilly forced Petrovic to make a good save shot from the edge of the box (2 in 5). Seven minutes later, Silva had a shot blocked (1 in 12), but AFCB were also having chances. Evanilson also had a shot blocked (1 in 12), Kroupi missed the target (1 in 8), and in a scramble, Rayan hit the post from close range (3 in 5). In the 77th minute, O’Reilly’s header was blocked (1 in 6), but after Man C tried to push forward, AFCB had 2 big chances in a minute to win the game, both falling to Brooks, who had recently come on. The first was hit quickly and weakly when he had time (1 in 5), the second was following good play from Unal, who set Brooks through one-on-one with Donnarumma. He put the ball past the keeper, and I was expecting the net to bulge, but it thumped against the post. (44%). These reprieves spurred on Man C, who had 4 half-chances in injury time. Marmoush had a shot blocked (1 in 11), Rodri hit the post (1 in 7) before Haaland thumped in a rocket off the post (1 in 7). At 1-1, Rodri had a shot blocked before the whistle blew, and AFCB were in Europe for the first time, although the late chances they had to win the game stung. At the final whistle,e the xG was AFCB 2.25, Man C 1.48, with Understat having a smaller margin: AFCB 1.7,1 Man C 1.27
