The arrival of Xabi Alonso will no doubt see some tough decisions made at Chelsea. According to Max, the incoming coach has laid down the law and requested that the club provide players who are committed to the project. Specifically, “you do it his and the clubs’ way or you leave”. The Argentine midfielder has been angling for a new contract and was suspended for two matches recently due to comments made on the international break.

With this reported mandate, the midfielder could see the door opened for a departure as the club looks to retool around a united squad of players who are working for the greater good.
A Risky Move
This would be a pretty major move for Alonso and the team for his debut season, Fernandez has come under fire at times but he has popped up with goals and assists throughout this campaign with 22 goal contributions across 53 appearances so far. Despite that, a desire to have every player be all in one the project could see him moved on.

The former Benfica man has provided much needed goalscoring power from midfield, crashing the box late to put away chances in a year where many in the side have struggled for goals like Liam Delap, Cole Palmer, and others. Whether utilised in a pivot, an inside forward, or a number ten, Fernandez has given his all on the field and performed when asked to.
