Arsenal now plotting shock move to sign world-class £200,000-a-week star - report

Arsenal have placed Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders on their list of midfield targets for the summer, according to TEAMtalk.

The Gunners have clinched the Premier League title for the first time since 2004 as focus now shifts to the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain later this month.

The North London outfit will be eager to build on their success following their title win and they are planning to strengthen Mikel Arteta's squad when the transfer window opens for business next month.

Reijnders has been reported as a potential option as the Gunners seek an addition in central midfield. He only joined Man City last summer, after a £46.5m deal was agreed with AC Milan.

Reijnders scored and assisted when he made his Premier League debut for City in a 4-0 victory over Wolves back in August.

However, his importance has diminished since the early months of the campaign. He has been an unused substitute in nine of the last 13 Premier League games.

City, according to TEAMtalk, would accept a £45m bid for their 'world-class' player. An offer in that range would see the club recoup almost all of the money they spent on him less than 12 months ago.

Reijnders has 15 goal involvements for City this campaign and is not short of options with clubs in the Premier League and Serie A said to be keeping tabs on his situation.

Juventus have had 'regular contact' with the player, who earns around £200,000-a-week before tax according to Sempre Milan, and they are currently the leading Serie A side in the mix for the Netherlands international.

Reijnders is keen to make a move where he can play Champions League football and somewhere he would have more regular minutes.

At Arsenal, he would be competing with Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard for a place in a midfield three. He can play centrally and in an attacking midfield role so could offer versatility to Mikel Arteta.

Rice is one of the first names on the teamsheet at the Gunners but with Zubimendi's form dipping in recent months combined with Odegaard's more regular injury struggles, Reijnders could be seen as a strong option for Arteta.

However, the player may stay at City if Rodri leaves the club this summer. The defensive midfielder has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and could find it tempting to play in his homeland.

City are eager to keep him but would part ways with Reijnders if the right offer comes along. The midfielder is set to head to the World Cup with the Netherlands, giving himself a chance to play his way back into form.
