Xabi Alonso prepared to‘get involved’to help Chelsea sign Premier League defender this summer

Xabi Alonso looks set to be a significant factor in helping Chelsea get signings over the line this summer, and could be a key factor in convincing Lewis Hall to join the club.

After handing him the title of ‘manager’ rather than ‘head coach’, the signs are that Chelsea are prepared to tweak their current system and hand more power to Alonso than those before him.

This has seen the Spaniard already make claims over who he wants in his squad next season, wanting to build around Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella.

Where will Chelsea be in the table by 6pm on Sunday afternoon?😬

Xabi Alonso prepared to convince Lewis Hall to join Chelsea

However, the left-back is strongly linked with a move away this summer, which would increase Chelsea’s demand to bring in a new player in the position.

Looking around the Premier League, one of the best performing individuals in this role so far would be Newcastle’s Lewis Hall, a player who came through the Chelsea academy.

He even showed promising signs for the first team under Graham Potter, however BlueCo determined that cashing in for pure profit was the best cause of action.

Fast forward to now, and according to Simon Phillips, Chelsea are plotting an ‘ambitious’ move to sign Hall back, with Alonso prepared to help convince him to join.

He said on his Substack: “Chelsea are looking at Lewis Hall as a possible replacement, and although it’s been explained to be as an ‘ambitious’ move should Chelsea try it, it’s been reported this week that Hall is eyeing a move away from Newcastle.

“It’s unclear yet whether he is open to a return to Chelsea or not, but again, Alonso would get involved if needed.”

If Chelsea have to sell this summer, which ONE are you sacrificing?🤔

Lewis Hall is the perfect signing for Chelsea

With Cucurella getting towards the end of his contract, there is certainly an argument that cashing in now could be the best course of action.

Despite seemingly being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup, there are few better left-backs in the country than Hall.

The most annoying part for Chelsea fans is that they have already seen him play in the club’s shirt, and they had the perfect opportunity to set him up for a long career at Stamford Bridge.

Instead, they will have to pay significantly more than the £35m they received for him in the summer of 2024.
