Manchester City star Erling Haaland is back on Real Madrid’s radar, as a star signing for presidential wannabe Enrique Riquelme.
El Confidencial report on the subject today. The newspaper insists that Real Madrid are back in the picture for Haaland, if Riquelme can secure the top seat.
Erling Haaland targeted
While Enrique Riquelme has declined to name specific players or coaches who might join Real Madrid if he was elected president, El Confidencial have information on the matter.
According to them, the businessman’s top targets for the election campaign at Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
The newspaper reports that the presidential candidate has already held contacts with Haaland in some capacity about a potential move. Riquelme has contacted his agents to ‘know his disposition’.
Those negotiations are seen as the first step to a potential transfer. Getting him from Manchester City would not be easy by any means.
But with Pep Guardiola seemingly departing and the Etihad in a state of flux, Real Madrid could ‘fish in a scrambled river’. Confidencial insist that Haaland would request a transfer if he came to an agreement with Riquelme and his team. That would facilitate a deal for Real Madrid.
Haaland, though, is tied to a deal until June 2034. Manchester City would not let him go easily even if he pushed for a departure. His agent has already admitted they’re hard to negotiate with.
Presidential race first
Any transfer depends on Riquelme getting elected at the Santiago Bernabeu first. He currently has 72 hours remaining to present his candidacy to the club.
The deadline for nomination is set to expire on 23rd May 2026. But statutory requirements at the Spanish giants mean there are a number of conditions that must be met before he can run.
Among those is proving an affiliation to the club and having the finances to cover 15% of Real Madrid’s general spending budget. The race is now on for him to prove he is a suitable candidate. After that, the election is, and Manchester City’s Erling Haaland looks likely to be among his promises.
