**[Everton](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton/) are one of the sides interested in Union Berlin defender Diogo Leite as he looks set to leave the German side this summer.**
[Record report that Everton](https://www.record.pt/) are among the suitors for the centre-back, who is set to become a free agent in June.
**Union Berlin departure**
--------------------------
The newspaper reports that the 27-year-old is leaving Union Berlin after four years with the German side. And he won’t be short of suitors when he does.
Real Sociedad are currently at the front of the queue. But they face competition from Eintracht Frankfurt, Everton and Besiktas for the left-footed centre-back.
Leite joined Union Berlin in 2022, initially on loan, before the move was made permanent for €7m in 2023. He’s made 136 appearances for them in total, establishing himself as a key player in their defence.
A product of Porto’s youth system, he played for them at every level, from youth to the B side, before making his first-team debut in 2018. He was highly rated in Portugal, going on to make 51 appearances for Porto. He also managed 34 during a loan spell at Braga.
**Porto successes**
-------------------
He was also a success in Portugal, winning the title in 19/20, the Portuguese Cup in 2020 and two Portuguese super cups in 2019 and 2021. And he’s experienced in Europe. He has played in the Champions League and Europa League during his career.
Currently valued at €12m, his free agent status perhaps make him something of a bargain. There are certainly not many left-footed centre-backs available on the market. He’s also a left-back on occasion. Although he’s only played there four times in his career.
How highly Everton value all that, remains to be seen. For now, they’re simply being presented as part of the competition for his signature this summer.
But the Toffees almost certainly in the market for a centre-back, perhaps a free agent such as Diogo Leite would allow them to spend their money elsewhere.
