Pep Guardiola confirms Man City exit as Michael Carrick signs as Man United boss

Pep Guardiola has officially announced he will leave Man City at the end of the season, while Michael Carrick has signed a two-year contract at Man United.

Guardiola’s departure from Man City was leaked earlier this week with widespread reports that he would step down after Sunday’s game against Aston Villa.

This has now been confirmed by the Spaniard himself, telling Man City‘s official website: “What a time we have had together.

“Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time.”

Man City are expected to formally announce the appointment of Enzo Maresca – previously Guardiola’s assistant and later Chelsea head coach – as successor in the coming days.

It means a major change in the dugout at the Etihad after a decade in which Guardiola became one of Liverpool’s fiercest rivals.

In 27 games against Liverpool, he has won 10, drawn seven and lost 10, with his battles with Jurgen Klopp seen as some of the greatest in modern football.

Guardiola is already confirmed to be remaining within the City Football Group as a global ambassador, though it is unclear whether he intends to take a new role as manager elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Friday also saw Carrick sign a two-year contract as new permanent Man United head coach, having overseen a remarkable turnaround in fortunes in his interim reign.

The former Man United midfielder has won 11, drawn three and lost only two of his 16 games in charge this season, securing a third-placed finish while Liverpool are yet to guarantee a Champions League place.

There promises to be a big shift in the landscape of the Premier League next season, with Xabi Alonso also confirmed as new Chelsea head coach.

Will Arne Slot keep his job at Liverpool?

Andoni Iraola will leave Bournemouth regardless of their league finish, as they still hope to qualify for the Champions League, while there are major doubts over **Arne Slot**‘s future at Liverpool.

It has been maintained that Fenway Sports Group will back Slot despite his failure this season, but his position is still under question.

Owner John W. Henry is likely to be among those in attendance for Sunday’s Premier League closer at home to Brentford, with his presence along with FSG president Mike Gordon due to stir conversation.

An internal review is expected to take place but whether Slot’s position is on the agenda remains to be seen.
