Chelsea fans have finally heard the potential reason that Thomas Tuchel has left Cole Palmer out of his 2026 England World Cup squad.
Cole Palmer‘s relationship with England manager Thomas Tuchel has taken a dramatic hit following a bombshell that the Chelsea man has been axed from the 2026 World Cup squad.
This international heartbreak caps off a challenging, inconsistent domestic campaign at Stamford Bridge. While Palmer looked impressive against Tottenham, a two-month groin injury and mid-season management changes disrupted his rhythm, limiting him to 10 goals across 33 games.
His dipped form has notably carried over to his recent performances for England, with Palmer failing to impress during the March friendly against Japan.
Has Cole Palmer been wronged? Or is it just deserved for his poor form?🤔

Thomas Tuchel explains his decision on England’s 2026 World Cup squad
Speaking after the England squad was announced, Thomas Tuchel didn’t go into specifics, but offered a few clues as to why Cole Palmer was left out, as well as Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah.
However, Reece James got the nod.
“To reduce the 55 was difficult, sometimes painfully difficult… I felt the emotion on the calls. I called all the players who were with us on a camp. A lot of them deserved to be with us.
“We relied heavily on the group that was with us in the last three camps. Does that mean the others aren’t good enough? No.
“Some [omissions] were a positional thing. These tough decisions had to be made before the tournament to not carry them through the tournament, and even if it’s painful for some, I think it was right.
“If there are doubts, you don’t play at the same level, so it comes down to who we trust. Who will deliver for us? Who will set the standards? Who is the leadership group? It’s about the energy, connection and trust with the players and me.”

Cole Palmer loses out in the battle of the number 10s
The brutal reality of Cole Palmer’s World Cup omission revolves around a fiercely competitive battle for England’s coveted number 10 role.
Thomas Tuchel previously acknowledged that attacking midfield is undoubtedly Palmer’s best position, but a dip in domestic form saw him slip completely down the pecking order.
Unwilling to take “five number 10s” just to play them out of position, Tuchel ruthlessly favoured Jude Bellingham, Morgan Rogers, and Eberechi Eze instead.
