The Blues make the trip to the north-east on Sunday afternoon to conclude their 2025/26 season. It has been a massively disappointing campaign for Chelsea, who have taken a couple of step backwards after a promising 2024/25, but they will be looking to end it on a high this weekend.
McFarlane's side, that will be [taken over by Xabi Alonso in July](https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/news/breaking-xabi-alonso-chelsea-manager-33960139), can still qualify for Europe. Depending on a [few things going their way](https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/transfer-news/chelsea-blueco-xabi-alonso-manager-33987415), the Blues could find themselves in next season's Europa League, or they might have to settle for the Conference League. Of course, there is a world where they don't qualify for any European competition.
