Inter Milan add Arsenal‘s Kepa Arrizabalaga to their goalkeeping target list that already includes Tottenham Hotspur‘s Guglielmo Vicario.
Over the past few months, there’s been repeat claims in Italy of the Serie A side’s interest in the Tottenham stopper.
On April 3rd, Sport Witness relayed news of Inter reaching an four-year agreement with the 29-year-old Spurs man. Two days ago, the Italian media pointed out of the deal between the two parties, but Tottenham aren’t in a rush to sell.
The Italian champions are also changing their plans as the Arsenal goalkeeper emerges as a new target.
Arsenal man over Tottenham player
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who cover the latest on Kepa Arrizabalaga and Guglielmo Vicario.
Yann Sommer has been the No.1 for Inter Milan, and the 37-year-old will leave when his contract expires in June.
His deputy, Josep Martínez, has played nine matches this season. Gazzetta state he has ‘demonstrated confidence, reliability, and, more generally, a deservingness’.
Cristian Chivu’s side have decided to promote him as their new No.1 and therefore, the deal for the Tottenham Hotspur player is ‘on hold, if not completely off’.
Sommer’s impending exit will also force them to sign another stopper. Inter Milan’s plan is to bring in a stopper capable of providing cover and competition to Martínez.
The 31-year-old Spaniard, who has been David Raya’s backup at Arsenal, comes into the picture.
He wasn’t the first choice while on loan at Real Madrid from Chelsea during the 2023/24 season. Kepa also has the similar role under Mikel Arteta at the Emirates as he made 12 appearances for the Gunners and it doesn’t include an appearance in the Premier League.
Inter Milan believe Kepa can be a ‘perfect partner’ for Martínez, allowing the latter to achieve his full potential. This wouldn’t please Vicario, who seems to be keen on leaving Tottenham in the summer.
