Liverpool and Everton icons will go head-to-head with a host of Premier League legends in a golf competition at Formby Hall on Saturday.
The Premier League Golf Classic brings together a mix of football and golf supporters from top-flight teams, past and present, as they take to the tee to earn bragging rights. The Reds will see the likes of Neil Mellor and Chris Kirkland face off while the blue half of the city will be represented by Alan Stubbs and Phil Jagielka.
Players from teams from across the north of the country will take part while raising money for the Oliver King Foundation. The event will feature a fan zone with live music, DJ's and pop up shops with doors opening at 12pm before teeing off at 1pm.
The winners will be paraded once all the golfers are back in the club house and it will be an opportunity for ex-Reds and Blues players to get one over on players who once turned out for Manchester United, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Leeds United to name a few.
Former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam is set to line up for while local ex-professionals such as Ryan Taylor will also look to hit birdies and pars across the course, which takes place ahead of the Open Championship held at Royal Birkdale in July.
Organiser Gary Barker said: "I've been sat on this idea for two years, basically I've always thought there should be a crossover sport, an event that's easily accessible to the public to the general football and golf fan.
"So I play quite a lot of golf with quite a few of the players anyway, I've got a good relationship with a lot footballers. We'd played golf and I'd told a couple of them the idea when we got to the 19th hole, shall we say and they were like, 'just do it, just we'll help you'.
"It's been a huge success in terms of getting the players in, and the players of the calibre that I've got in are fantastic.
"There's going to be some great golf, some absolute legends of the Premier League. We've got a fan zone going on, so we've got entertainment, we've got stuff on for the kids, we got entertainment for the adults, food and drink. It's going to be a full day of entertainment, whether you like football or you just want to bring your kids out for a day out, you want to try and get them into the golf.
"We are also raising money for the Oliver King Foundation as well so on the day whatever we make the Oliver King Foundation will get the money that's being raised on the day, which is something that I've always wanted to do.
"That is the idea (to bring club legends closer). So you've got other events similar to mine, the likes of Icon Series which I watched and I was hooked on and thought it was absolutely fantastic.
"But there's one thing about it, it's not accessible to your average fella who goes the match because it's Dubai or Thailand or wherever. I want to keep this one local for everybody. This year we're playing the Northern one at a Formby home, which is fantastic.
"So you're going to be able to see your heroes that I grew up watching."
Tickets are on sale for the event, which is being held at Formby Hall.
