Writing in his column for Sportskeeda, Merson said that even though he is backing the Hammers to get the three points they need, he still thinks they will be relegated:

“West Ham were disappointing against Newcastle. That performance was bordering on shocking, if I’m being honest. Leeds have been amazing this season, but this is the last game, and I think West Ham can beat them.”
“I say that because West Ham have to win at any cost to avoid relegation. Leeds can afford to relax a bit. The most important thing for West Ham to stay up is that they must score first.”
“If West Ham score before Tottenham on the final day of the season, that will put pressure on Spurs! If it’s the other way around and Tottenham take an early lead, West Ham might end up losing to Leeds. I have a feeling West Ham will win. But Tottenham need just a draw and they are likely to get it. So I’m afraid it could be all over for West Ham.”
What scoreline has Merson predicted for West Ham vs Leeds?
The Sky Sports pundit has gone with a 2-1 win for the Irons, but if Spurs do secure a draw against Everton as he expects, then fans will be distraught.
Of course, it is not in Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side’s hands. All they can do is keep their end of the bargain and hope that David Moyes can do them a favour at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What are the odds of West Ham staying up?
Opta have predicted that the Hammers have an 86.31% chance of being relegated, which means the probability of retaining their top-flight status is 13.69%.
Bookmakers are even more pessimistic. Betting firms have Nuno’s men priced between 1/6 and 1/16 odds-on to go down.
