Fernandez made it clear a couple of weeks ago that he is very much open to leaving the Stamford Bridge club this summer. While the Argentine was talking up a potential move to Real Madrid, he could remain in England and switch to Man City. Incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso could have his own idea of the type of players he wants and could be open to letting the Blues midfielder leave. The Spaniard will be eager to mount a title challenge next term and will only prefer to retain the services of players who really want to remain at the club.

Fernandez was a Maresca loyalist when the Italian was at Chelsea, and the 25-year-old often talked about him even after the his departure, and a reunion could now be on the cards.
