Everton have made a direct approach to sign Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

That’s according to Matteo Moretto, who has revealed that for now, the Norway international isn’t open to the possibility of joining the Toffees.

The Blues may need to change the 30-year-old’s mind about moving to Hill Dickinson Stadium if they want to get a deal over the line for David Moyes.

Moretto also believes that any offer for the centre-forward would need to be in the region of £25.9million for the LaLiga outfit to accept it.

Sorloth would be a marquee addition for The Friedkin Group, but it remains to be seen whether the Merseyside outfit can convince him to return to the Premier League.

Everton have more than one reason for Alexander Sorloth transfer

Speaking on MARCA on 22 May, Moretto said, “There’s another club that has made a slightly stronger, slightly more direct approach to Atletico and that’s Everton. But for the moment, the player isn’t open to that possibility. So, I don’t see Sorloth going to Everton as a good move. Well, I don’t think they’ve confirmed it to me 100% yet, but I think it’ll be around £25.9m.”

Sorloth has grown into a deadly striker since last playing for Crystal Palace in the Premier League between 2018 and 2020.

The Norwegian centre-forward made the move to Atletico a couple of years ago after some prolific seasons in Spain and has continued to score regularly in LaLiga and the Champions League.

If the Toffees sign Sorloth, they will not only get a reliable goalscorer but also someone with experience leading the line in Europe.

The Merseyside outfit’s fans clearly have ambitions of European football at Hill Dickinson Stadium and the Atletico striker could potentially take them to the next level.

David Moyes has pitch ready for Alexander Sorloth

Moyes can entice Sorloth to Everton by guaranteeing him a spot in the starting lineup, something that hasn’t been possible under Diego Simeone this season.

Thierno Barry and Beto have been fighting for a spot in the team, but their inconsistency won’t be encouraging for the Scottish manager.

Jack Grealish’s potential return to Hill Dickinson Stadium would also make it easier to sign other quality players in the summer.

With the Manchester City loanee and Iliman Ndiaye creating chances up front, Sorloth should be confident about finally proving himself in England.
