Man Utd close to 'full agreement' on blockbuster £39m first summer transfer as Everton eye…

The latest Premier League transfer news including stories on Man United, West Ham, Everton and more

We’re just a couple of days away from the 2025/26 Premier League season coming to a close. It’s been a vintage campaign in England’s top tier, with Arsenal ending a 22-year wait to lift the trophy, a relegation battle that’s gone down to the final day, and a whole bunch of dodgy VAR decisions that have left fans reeling for days on end.

Speaking of baffling decisions, we’re still trying to get our heads around England’s 2026 World Cup squad, otherwise known as Thomas Tuchel’s provocative, avant-garde art installation which is set to take North America by storm this summer. He’s included a striker from a league OPTA rank lower than England’s League One, and a full-back with a broken jaw.

Away from all that, the summer transfer window is just around the corner, and Premier League clubs are hard at work putting the final touches to their recruitment plans. We’re expecting a frenzied three months of wheeling and dealing, as managers look to improve their squads ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Let’s get the ball rolling at the London Stadium, where the Hammers are in the unenviable position of having to pull together two transfer plans: one for if they stay up, and one for if they go down. It’s the latter that looks the most likely at the moment, and such an outcome should see a number of their top players sold this summer.

Football Insider report that one such player who could go is club talisman Jarrod Bowen, and suggests a £35m fee could be enough to sign him. They contend that the 29-year-old is “attracting interest” from Chelsea, along with other, unnamed Premier League sides. This is about as much substance as the report offers with regard to the Blues’ apparent desire to sign him.

The 3AM Verdict: Let’s make this quite clear, once and for all: Chelsea do not need any more wingers. They have Estevao and Pedro, and simply can’t accommodate any more on the right. Or the left, for that matter. Also, can you imagine Bowen telling his father-in-law, Danny Dyer, that he’s heading across London to join the Irons’ rivals? Perish the thought.

Manchester United ‘on the cusp’ of signing Ederson

No, we’re not talking about ex-Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson - it’s the Atalanta midfielder of the same name who Manchester United are said to be making a move for. The Old Trafford outfit are going to sign at least two central midfielders this summer and they appear to have found their first, if Team Talk are to be believed.

They say the Red Devils are “one step away” from signing the Brazil international, who looks set to be available for a not unreasonable fee of around £39m. The player is also thought to be close to agreeing terms on a contract with United, and Atalanta appear ready to sell the player due to his current deal only having a year left to run.

The 3AM Verdict: This one looks like it’s going to happen, but it’s worth noting that transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has suggested it isn’t as advanced as others have suggested, and he usually gets it pretty spot on. Ederson would be a great addition to United’s midfield engine room, and with the player not making Brazil’s World Cup squad, he won’t have to deal with fatigue come pre-season.

Everton keen on free agent deal

Lastly, we’re off to Goodison Park, where Everton are rumoured to be eyeing themselves a bit of a bargain. Union Berlin defender Diogo Leite looks set to be in high demand this summer, once he leaves the Bundesliga club upon the expiry of his contract. According to Sport Witness, the 27-year-old has captured the attention of the Toffees.

The story states that Spanish side Real Sociedad are the current favourites to sign the Portuguese talent, but Everton, Besiktas and Eintracht Frankfurt are also very much in the mix. There is no indication of the player’s preference when it comes to his next move, and little else in the way of detail in terms of where his future may lie.

The 3AM Verdict: Could Everton do with signing a new centre-back this summer? Certainly - their current pair of starters have a combined age of 66. Of course, once Jarrad Branthwaite is back, he’ll return to the back line, but there’s no denying the Toffees could do with some more youthful backup. Given that he wouldn’t cost a penny, it’s a bit of business probably worth doing.
