Everton frontrunners to sign £100,000-a-week striker as exit decision made - report

Everton are among the frontrunners to sign Chelsea striker Liam Delap, according to Football Insider.

The Toffees head into their final Premier League game of the weekend against Tottenham Hotspur with little to play for.

David Moyes' side lost 3-1 at home to Sunderland last time out, with that result all-but ending their hopes of qualifying for Europe due to their inferior goal difference.

There will still be plenty of eyes on Everton this weekend as they could have a major say in the relegation battle with Spurs needing a draw or a win to guarantee survival.

Beto is the club's top scorer in the Premier League this season with nine goals while Thierno Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall both have eight goals each.

Beto and Barry have struggled to deliver consistently in front of goal this season, with Moyes looking at the striker market as the window approaches.

Everton keen to sign Liam Delap from Chelsea

Football Insider report Delap is 'edging closer' to a Stamford Bridge exit with the club open to offers for the ex-Ipswich Town player this summer.

The 23-year-old moved to the Blues in a deal worth up to £30m in 2025, with Chelsea paying an initial £20m. However, the forward has struggled to settle at the West London club and has scored just twice in 40 appearances.

Everton attempted to sign Delap last summer before he made the move to Chelsea and there is the belief his physicality would be better suited to the Toffees.

During the 2024-25 campaign, he scored 12 goals and provided two assists for Ipswich as they were relegated from the Premier League.

He is reported to be on wages of £100,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge but has not played regularly and the pending arrival of Xabi Alonso casts further doubt over his future.

Everton target Liam Delap 'can do anything'

Speaking after Delap provided a hat-trick of assists for Chelsea in a 4-0 FA Cup win over Hull, former Spurs and Manchester City midfielder Michael Brown was keen to highlight how much the player can offer.

He said: "Delap can do anything. He is like a throwback and is that all-around number nine.

"He is very effective when he is on his game. He is good in the air, he can hold the ball up well, he can defend and he can finish."

Delap has spent time out with injury this season but has only started 12 times in the Premier League for Chelsea, with just one start in the Champions League.

The move could be a perfect fit for all parties, with Delap going to a club better suited to his qualities, while Everton can secure a player with the potential to deliver more consistently in front of goal - if he can rediscover the form he enjoyed at Ipswich.

For Chelsea they can recoup some of the money they spent 12 months and give new manager Alonso the chance to stamp his own identity on the squad.
