Everton play their final game of the season against Tottenham.
David Moyes confirms that Gana has a 50-50 chance for the game
Moyes says he’d love to keep West Ham up but his focus is Everton.
Everton travel to Tottenham on Sunday for the final game of the season.
Spurs need a point to secure their Premier League status. However, a defeat would mean they have to rely on West Ham’s result against Leeds, who are currently 18th in the table.
David Moyes held his pre-match press conference on Friday and provided an update on the team news and the squad.
Gana could return after three games out for Everton
Idrissa Gana Gueye has missed Everton’s last three matches through injury but has resumed individual training since then at Finch Farm this week. David Moyes gave the latest update on his chances.
“[Gana] has been back on the grass. I’d say there’s probably a 50-50 chance he could be involved. We’ll know a bit more once we’ve trained and seen him over the next couple of days. He’s not trained with the team, at the moment, so that’s where we’re at with him.”
If Gueye does not feature, it could be his final Everton appearance. Contract talks are not underway and he is not expected to sign a new deal.
Branthwaite and Grealish making progress
David Moyes also provided positive news on long-term absentees Jarrad Branthwaite and Jack Grealish.
“Jarrad is making good progress, which you would expect, and he’s moving on. Jarrad has got a programme through the summer.
“We’ve looked after Jack since his injury and his injury is coming on. He had quite a bad break in his foot, which has been pinned and it’s looking in good order now. The surgeon has been speaking very well about it and thinks it’s healing greatly. Normally a player would go back to their parent club [when injured] and be looked after from there but we’ll continue doing our best for Jack.”
Moyes on West Ham and Tottenham
Asked about West Ham’s survival fight, Moyes did not hide his feelings to lend a favour to his former club. “I’d love to keep West Ham in the league if I can do. But it’s more important I get Everton that top-finish and we get a few more million pounds because of our league position.”
Tottenham’s lengthy injury list
Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi will be without several key players for the crucial final-day clash. Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies are all ruled out. Dominic Solanke faces a late fitness check, but Djed Spence is expected to feature after an injury scare against Chelsea.
Everton will look to end the season on a positive note. A win would secure a higher league finish and more prize money. For Gueye, if he gets on the pitch, it could be a farewell.
Sunday is the final chapter of 2025-26 for Everton.
