**[Arsenal](https://sportwitness.co.uk/arsenal/) midfielder Mikel Merino has revealed that the squad consider the Premier League title as more important than the Champions League.**
[Cadena SER report comments](https://cadenaser.com/nacional/2026/05/21/mikel-merino-ganar-el-mundial-es-importante-tener-los-pies-en-el-suelo-pero-la-mirada-en-el-cielo-cadena-ser/) from the 29-year-old today after he appeared on their show El Larguero.
**Arsenal return**
------------------
The midfielder is looking to make a return right at the end of the season after spending the last few months out injured.
He is expected to be in Luis de La Fuente’s Spain squad for the World Cup, while he is also hoping to play some part in the Champions League final. Arsenal take on PSG on the 30th May.
They head into that game as Premier League champions, with Manchester City’s draw with Bournemouth securing the Gunners’ title win with a game to spare.
**Premier League or Champions League?**
---------------------------------------
They could make the season extra special with a first Champions League title. But according to Merino, the squad have already secured their top priority.
“The Premier League title. It’s a league victory. And it’s very sweet because of the way we won it and the context, after 22 years without winning it,” he said.
“Absolutely. It’s something I asked the dressing room. The players themselves told me that the Premier League was more important than the Champions League,” he said when asked ‘Premier League or Champions League?’
“Coming from Spain, I had the idea that the Champions League was the most important. But seeing how difficult the Premier League is, it’s harder for me to choose one or the other.
“I think they would prefer to have won this league title than the Champions League against PSG. Although it’s true that it’s their first ever.”
He was then asked which of the two he prefers. And he admits, unlike his teammates, he wants to be greedy with his selection.
“We’ve already won the Premier League, so the answer is a bit of a double-edged sword. I’m going to be greedy and ask for both,” he added.
