David Alaba’s adventure at Real Madrid will end once the 2025-26 season is over and his contract expires, it has been confirmed.
Alaba will therefore be released on a free transfer next summer. He became a key figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s side that won the Champions League in 2022, and leaves the Spanish capital after lifting eleven trophies.

The Austrian won two Champions Leagues, two LaLigas, one Copa del Rey, two European Super Cups, two Spanish Super Cups and two Club World Cups. In his final league match, Alaba will bid farewell to his home crowd before considering his next professional adventure.
“Real Madrid CF and David Alaba have agreed to end the player’s adventure with our club at the end of the current season,” the press release reads.
“Real Madrid wishes to express its gratitude and all its affection to a player who was part of a team that was part of one of the most successful eras in our history.
“David Alaba represented our shirt in 131 matches over five seasons, during which he won 11 titles. Real Madrid wishes David Alaba and his family all the best in this new stage of their lives.”
A future in Italy?
Calciomercato.com write that in the past few weeks Alaba has been offered to Juventus, Inter and Milan on a free transfer, as Fabrizio Romano also stated. His agent is currently in the process of gathering offers before the former Bayern Munich man decides.
However, the report adds that none of the top Italian clubs seem that interested in signing him even on a free and as things stand there have been no signs of openness towards his arrival in the Italian league.
While the Rossoneri have shown a desire to add winning experience – through the arrival of Luka Modric and strong links with Leon Goretzka – Alaba is seemingly not a profile that tickles their fancy.
