Chelsea make their longest domestic away trip of the season on the final day as they visit Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The Blues’ Premier League campaign has been an arduous one and they may be pleased to see the back of it, though they still have the opportunity to close it out on a positive note.

Aston Villa’s Europa League triumph on Wednesday night has made it somewhat easier for Chelsea to secure a European place, provided they finish in the top eight of the table.

A return to the Conference League, the competition they won last season, seems the most likely avenue for Chelsea to play a role on the continent next season.

Sunderland can also be considered European contenders as they head into their final match just one point adrift of the top eight.

Regis Le Bris’ side has drastically outperformed their fellow promoted sides, but will need no less than three points against the Blues if they are to make their European dream manifest.

They come into the match on curious form, too, with just one win in their last five outings. Chelsea, meanwhile, were not overly convincing in defeat of Tottenham midweek, so it is all to play for on Wearside.
