Chelsea twist as Emanuel Emegha’s future is already up in the air

Emanuel Emegha is set to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer, though his performances at Strasbourg have raised concerns over his situation at Chelsea.

Emanuel Emegha’s impending arrival at Chelsea from sister club Strasbourg has sparked plenty of debate.

The Dutch forward enjoyed a brilliant 14-goal campaign last season and was subsequently named Strasbourg captain over the summer. However, Emegha’s agreed transfer to Stamford Bridge infuriated local fans, who felt the French side was merely acting as a feeder club.

The pressure from supporters has coincided with a deeply frustrating, injury-plagued season. Emegha has suffered multiple long-term setbacks, including a severe leg injury that sidelined him for four months, followed by a recent hamstring problem.

Restricted to just 18 total appearances this term, he still managed an efficient eight goals. But, you struggle to see how he improves this Chelsea side.

Chelsea are undecided on Emanuel Emegha

According to Striver, Chelsea’s current idea is to target between 3 and 4 new signings during the summer window, but this does not include deals that have already been agreed.

However, striker Emmanuel Emegha’s future has not yet been decided.

The striker options at Chelsea aren’t exactly impressive. Joao Pedro remains an indispensable figure despite Barcelona’s interest, but fellow forward Liam Delap has struggled.

Consequently, Nicolas Jackson is set to return this summer and there is an interest in Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea need to aim higher than Emegha

While Emanuel Emegha’s move brings useful physicality, relying on a forward plagued by recent long-term injuries is a massive gamble for a club with Champions League ambitions. To genuinely compete for silverware under Xabi Alonso, Chelsea must aim far higher than a developing Strasbourg player.

The Blues require a proven talisman to spearhead their attack and support Pedro.

However, the one thing that won’t work in Chelsea’s favour when trying to attract big talents is the fact that there may not be any European football to offer.
