A Manchester United megaflop suffered an embarrassing new low on Saturday evening as he was relegated from the Spanish top tier.
Donny van de Beek arrived at the Red Devils with high hopes after starring in an exciting young Ajax team under Erik ten Hag. However, his time at Old Trafford was less than ideal and a couple of short loan spells couldn't help kickstart his career.
The Dutchman left United in 2024, signing for City Football Group owned Girona - who had stunned Spanish football with a third place finish in 2024. However, they quickly crashed back down to earth finishing 16th last season.

And heading into the final game of the 2025/26 season, Van de Beek and Co had their own destiny in their hands with seven clubs all battling for survival.
However, Girona could only draw to Elche as Arnau Martinez levelled the match following a stunning strike from Alvaro Rodriguez.
Mallorca have also been relegated to the Segunda despite a 3-0 win over bottom side Real Oviedo that saw them finish on 42 points, level with Osasuna and Levante, and one point behind Elche, Deportivo Alaves and Seville.
Girona's players were left in tears after the full-time whistle - with the star-studded squad also featuring Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Daley Blind, Axel Witsel and Bryan Gil.

Van de Beek has struggled with injuries this season, after he suffered an Achilles rupture in September. The Dutchman made a return to the matchday squad for the final two games of the campaign, but was twice an unused substitute.
Elsewhere, Getafe shocked fans with their European berth, claiming a spot in the Europa Conference League. Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad will be the Spanish representatives in the Europa League.
While Barcelona, Real Madrid, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Real Betis are all in the Champions League.
