Jurrien Timber is close to agreeing terms on a new contract with Arsenal after talks have progressed healthily, football.london understands. An extension to his current deal, which expires in the summer of 2028, is hoped to keep the Dutchman in north London for the best years of his career.

Despite missing almost all of the first season of his Arsenal career to injury after suffering a major knee problem, he has gone on to become one of the best players at the club. The right-back has been a mainstay in his role until only recently, when a knee injury prevented him from featuring since mid-March.

There is still hope he could return before the UEFA Champions League final, but the latest update that came from Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman was that it “doesn’t look rosy". The World Cup remains a target for the defender, but this will undoubtedly be a challenge.

Arsenal are interested in adding another full-back to the squad this summer, football.london understands. Therefore, it might be that Timber starts the new campaign with another competitor for the right-back position.

Considering the persistent injuries he has suffered, Mikel Arteta is very aware that he needs strength in depth and with both current right-back options dealing with issues, and Cristhian Mosquera the only alternative option, a move is no surprise.
