Chelsea travelled to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland in their final Premier League game of the season.
Calum McFarlane’s men went into the match knowing that a win would give them a chance of qualifying for the Europa League.
In the end, they could not even secure a spot in the Conference League. Chelsea lost 2-1, finishing the campaign in 10th place.
For the final time this term, here is how The Chelsea Chronicle rated each Chelsea player.
After that awful performance against Sunderland, which players do Chelsea need to get rid of this summer? 😡

Robert Sanchez: 5/10
Made a good save just after the fifth minute. Made some more afterwards and probably could not do much about the goals he conceded.
Malo Gusto: 5/10
Got involved in Chelsea’s attacking play, putting a beautiful ball into Sunderland’s box late in the first half. A threat down the right-hand side but scored a terrible own goal.
Wesley Fofana: 2/10
Had a lot of defending to do, did not always look convincing. Another red card… speechless.
Levi Colwill: 5/10
Tried to bring the ball out, looked confident among all the chaos but was not as solid as he has been in previous games.
Jorrel Hato: 4/10
Touches were a bit nervy at times, which is unlike him. Substituted in the second half as McFarlane tried to tweak things.
Marc Cucurella: 3/10
Showed a lot of defensive vulnerabilities before the half-hour mark. Did not really improve after that.
Who is to blame for our shambolic defence this season? 😡
No clean sheet in our final game vs Sunderland 🤦♂️

Enzo Fernandez (C): 5/10
Had to do a bit of defending in the first 10 minutes, which he would not have wanted. Tried to be positive with his play.
Moises Caicedo: 6/10
Was good in possession in the first half. One of Chelsea’s better players on the day.
Cole Palmer: 6/10
Had a very good chance at the beginning of the match but his effort was very tame. Disappeared after that before eventually making an impact with a fortunate goal.
Pedro Neto: 4/10
Produced a nice nutmeg on one Sunderland defender but did not do much on the right flank other than that.
Joao Pedro: 4/10
Missed a header shortly before the half-time whistle, really had to score. Was bullied by Sunderland’s defenders.
Substitutes
Reece James: 5/10
The kind of game Reece James probably needed to start. The club clearly still have concerns about his fitness.
Trevoh Chalobah: 5/10
Had to come on in the second half after Wesley Fofana’s red card.
Josh Acheampong: N/A
Liam Delap: N/A
