Furious Chelsea fans turn on one player with chant against Sunderland

A toxic atmosphere reached boiling point on the final day of the season as traveling Chelsea fans brutally turned on one of their own players against Sunderland.

Chelsea’s erratic season concluded with a bitter 2-1 final-day defeat to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, completely extinguishing their hopes of European qualification.

Entering the clash knowing a win could secure continental football, interim manager Calum McFarlane’s side faltered under intense pressure from the hosts. Trai Hume broke the deadlock midway through the first half with a spectacular volley, putting Sunderland in control.

Things went from bad to worse early in the second half when a wayward shot from Brian Brobbey deflected off the unfortunate Malo Gusto for an own goal.

But what really tipped things over the edge was the unreliable Wesley Fofana getting sent off for a second yellow card in what could be his last game for the Blues.

The loss condemned Chelsea to a dismal tenth-place finish.

Who is to blame for our shambolic defence this season? 😡

Chelsea fans make their feelings clear on Wesley Fofana

Travelling Chelsea supporters reached their boiling point at Sunderland, brutally turning on Wesley Fofana after his costly red card.

Ruthless chants of “what a waste of money” echoed repeatedly from the away end, perfectly capturing the fans’ frustration with the defender’s disastrous performance and error-plagued season.

Wesley Fofana had 33 touches, a passing accuracy percentage of 91, three recoveries, seven clearances, one duel won and three lost, as well as committing three fouls.

After that awful performance against Sunderland, which players do Chelsea need to get rid of this summer? 😡

Wesley Fofana’s awful season to date

Wesley Fofana’s campaign has been summed up by constant defensive fragility and costly disciplinary issues.

The Sunderland red card isn’t his first of the season, as Fofana was handed a costly red card during a tense draw against Burnley earlier in the season that cost the Blues points.

Beyond the dismissals, Fofana has been plagued by lapses in concentration, publicly lamenting his own gross errors after a chaotic 5-2 Champions League collapse against Paris Saint-Germain.
