David Moyes: ‘We need more players’

David Moyes reflected on a 1-0 loss for Everton against Tottenham.

The Toffees have endured a poor end to the season, dropping points after conceding late goals in matches against Liverpool and West Ham (2-1 defeats) and Manchester City (a 3-3 draw.)

That streak post-international break worsened when they conceded three goals without reply in the second half against Sunderland in their final game for the season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

‘I didn't think it was a great performance from us’

A season free from struggle should be welcomed by the club, but Moyes is wanting to drive the standards of the side even higher, so there will be many lessons to learn from this lean streak that has ended their dreams of qualification for Europe.

A 13th place finish following the defeat against Spurs in North London shows how teams cannot afford to let their levels drop in the backend of the season, and the manager feels he needs assistance.

"I didn't think it was a great performance from us, the second half was probably better, we had around 20 minutes at the end where we created opportunities. We were incredibly resilient not to buckle under early pressure, though. We gave away a lot of free kicks and that meant we had to defend a lot - the goal came from a corner kick.

“We need more players. I've seen it more in the last few weeks [with the number of injuries in the group.] I don't want to make excuses but also some decisions have gone against us.

"I don't think there has ever been better value for money [than Seamus Coleman ]- someone might tell me otherwise. Having longevity and being a one-club man is rare and he deserves a lot of credit."
