Arsenal finally got to lift the Premier League trophy that they earned at the start of last week after their 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, ending a 22-year wait for the North London club to be league champions again.
It has been a season where Arsenal have had to battle to stand atop the Premier League summit, fending off Manchester City for most of the second half of the season in a campaign that looked like it would slip away from the Gunners at times.
While the result final game of the season did not matter in the grand scheme of things for Arsenal, it was perhaps fitting that such a rollercoaster of a season ended with a trophy celebration on the final day.
Manager Mikel Arteta revealed a surprising factor about the proceedings post-match, revealing a belief he held that ultimately did not end up becoming true.

Mikel Arteta expected the Premier League title to be won at the Emirates Stadium
Speaking after the match at Selhurst Park, Mikel Arteta revealed that in his head, the Arsenal trophy lift he lad longed for, for such a long time, would be at the Emirates Stadium.
“I thought we were going to win it at [the] Emirates Stadium at some point, and it happened in a completely different manner to what anyone expected. But it was magical being around the players, your family and having some time to reflect,” Arteta stated.
If Arsenal had won the league in the gameweek prior against Burnley, they would have lifted the trophy at their home stadium like their Spanish manager had dreamed of, but it was not to be.
Speaking on finally winning the title, Arteta added:
“It’s an amazing feeling… I’ve been trying to go through this moment a few times, but I could never expect it to be that big, to be that beautiful, and to see so much joy and pride amongst all the people and our supporters.”
Arsenal’s coach of the past seven years also made a bold claim that his side were going to beat Paris Saint-Germain this weekend in the Champions League final, which is a statement sure to get fans excited.
Mikel Arteta wants to be part of a ‘new chapter’ at Arsenal
Mikel Arteta’s contract expires with Arsenal in the summer of 2027, and despite rumours he will sign a new contract with the club at some point soon, it is unknown currently what his long-term future at the club looks like.
“Sometimes you need to reflect on winning the , because everything has happened so fast and in such a special way as well. But I really want to enjoy this moment, at least today. Tomorrow we’ll start to prepare for the final in Budapest, and I can’t wait to write a new chapter in the history of our football club,” said Arteta.
