Chelsea will have a lot on their plate this summer. The club will need to strengthen the squad significantly if Xabi Alonso is going to have any chance of succeeding in the Stamford Bridge job. But it won’t be straightforward. The Blues’ financial situation could create an issue. They have no Champions League football, a long-term front-of-shirt sponsor, have posted record losses, were fined by UEFA last summer and will continue to be monitored.
So, Chelsea will have to be very shrewd with how they handle their transfer business this summer. They have been exactly the opposite of that over the past four seasons. So, we might be asking a lot here. Almost a 180-degree turn.
It will be important to part ways with some of their fringe players this summer, in order to fund new arrivals. And one player expected to leave is Axel Disasi. His eventual destination remains in doubt though.
According to Footmercato, West Ham United’s relegation to the Championship completely changes the situation of Disasi. The English club will not be able to keep the French defender, who will therefore return to Chelsea.
Disasi does not have a future at Chelsea
Disasi was one of West Ham United’s best players in the second half of the season, as he spent time on loan at the London club. He established himself as a regular starter for them. But it was not enough to avoid relegation.
Now, West Ham United are no longer in a position to sign Disasi on a permanent basis. But that does not mean that he will stay at Chelsea either.
According to the same report, a departure remains very likely and several clubs have already begun to inquire about his situation. His time at West Ham showed that Disasi remains a very good defender capable of performing in the Premier League.
Disasi still expected to leave
Disasi should not face major issues finding himself a new club in the summer. But it remains to be seen what kind of a transfer fee Chelsea can get out of the move.
There is no chance that they would have able to recoup the €45 million they shelled out to sign him from AS Monaco. It will most likely be a fraction of that figure. Let’s see what that looks like.
But at the end of the day, it might be best for all parties to part ways and start afresh. Unless Alonso has other ideas about the Frenchman.
