Jarrod Bowen drops hint on future plans amid Chelsea links

West Ham United got relegated on the final day of the season. Their chances of staying up had been slim to begin with. And ultimately, it was not to be. Even though the Hammers won 3-0 against Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur’s win meant that they could not avoid the drop. That could be interesting for Chelsea, who have been linked with Jarrod Bowen recently.

While West Ham United might have been relegated, they do have a ton of talent. And it is expected that top-flight clubs will swoop in in the summer, and sign a number of them, potentially for bargain transfer fees. One of them is Bowen.

For five straight seasons, Bowen has produced 20 or more goal contributions for West Ham United. That was not enough to prevent their relegation. And he is one of the players who is not going to have a tough time drawing interest in the summer. Chelsea are one of those believed to be interested, and could offer him a chance to stay in London at the same time.

Yet, judging from Bowen’s comments, it looks like he might not be keen on a move away from West Ham United. On the contrary, he wants to get them back to the Premier League. According to CaughtOffside, he said on BBC Match of the Day:

“It’s disrespectful to everyone to start talking about that. I want this club to be in the Premier League. It’s a club that means so much to me and has given me so much so my vision is to get this club back in the Premier League.”

Bowen refuses to discuss future after West Ham United relegation

That does not sound like someone who is actively pushing for a move away after seeing the club relegated. And to be honest, that is admirable. Chelsea could do with a few characters like Bowen at the moment.

That being said, once the dust settles, the emotions are spent and reality sets in, there might be a chance that Bowen starts considering his future. He is going to see teammates leave left, right and centre over the summer.

And there is no guarantee that they will be straight back up. Bigger clubs than West Ham United have gone down and remained stuck in the Championship for years. It is a hard league to navigate.

Also, it is hard to say ‘yes’ to Championship football when clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur come calling. So, we shall see how this turns out over the coming weeks and months.

Why Bowen would be a great signing for Chelsea

If anything, those comments should strengthen Chelsea’s desire to go on and sign Bowen. He seems just the type of player that this dressing room needs.

He would also tick a lot of boxes that Chelsea are looking for this summer. Bowen is Premier League-proven, experienced and still in his prime. He has had 21 goal contributions or more in all of his last five seasons.

Now, with West Ham United going down, he is likely going to be available for a bargain fee as well. It has been suggested that the Hammers might need to raise around £100 million summer as a result of their relegation.
