There is a lot that Chelsea need to be working on in this summer transfer window. They simply are not a great team at the moment. The first step is to recognise that. Somehow, after spending close to two billion pounds, BlueCo haven’t even been able to put together a squad that is capable of qualifying for Europe.
Other than a handful of players, fans would be happy to see the rest leave this summer. That just goes to show how bad the recruitment has been.
One of the few signings that they have gotten right lately is Joao Pedro’s move from Brighton & Hove Albion. While fans had not been convinced about his quality, 23 goals and 9 assists in his debut season has been enough to win them over.
That has come with a fresh problem though. Barcelona seem keen on signing Pedro. And judging from recent reports, it feels like the Brazilian international is open to the move as well. But fortunately, it appears that Chelsea are not entertaining the idea. According to Fabrizio Romano, on his YouTube channel:
“At the moment, Chelsea have absolutely no intention to discuss, and it’s not about 90 million, 100 million, 120. It’s not about numbers. Chelsea want to restart their project with a top coach like Xabi Alonso and with top players like obviously Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer, and all the others. So this is going to be the focus there in the transfer window, guys. We are here to keep you updated if Barcelona will decide to make something crazy happen, we will eventually let you know, but that’s the situation for Joao Pedro.”
Chelsea not planning to part ways with Joao Pedro right now
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Pedro. Right now, it looks like Chelsea are not entertaining the idea of him leaving this summer. It is easy to understand why.
Pedro is the first striker the club have had since Diego Costa who has scored a decent number of goals. He has done what the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alvaro Morata, and Timo Werner failed to.
Obviously, it might be hard to keep him around, if he starts pushing for an exit. But at the moment, it does not look like that is the case. Hopefully, it will remain that way.
Other strikers are being linked with the club as well
While Chelsea might be keen to keep Pedro at the club, that does not mean that they are happy to stay still. In fact, the expectation is that they will sign another striker.
They have been linked with quite a few lately. That includes proven ones like Julian Alvarez as well as those struggling like Nick Woltemade.
On the other hand, several of Chelsea’s current strikers could be on their way out. That includes Liam Delap, Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu and the incoming Emmanuel Emegha. So, it remains to be seen how the forward department will look in the future.
