Liverpool could be joined by Barcelona in the race to sign Denzel Dumfries, according to reports.

FC Inter News says that Barca could move to sign Dumfries if Jules Kounde, who has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, leaves the Nou Camp this summer.

It is reported that there is still a good chance of Dumfries staying at Inter into next season, but there is a release clause in Dumfries's contract which becomes active in July.

The 30-year-old will be available for just £20 million ($27 million), and his future is expected to be resolved following the World Cup, which Dumfries is in the Netherlands squad for.

Liverpool's two main right-backs this season, Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong, endured injury-ravaged campaigns, and signing Dumfries could be a shrewd move by the Reds.

Liverpool's transfer policy means the club rarely signs players over 25 to long-term deals, and Dumfries is well beyond that, but the opportunistic nature of a potential deal could make sense for the Reds.

Dumfries would also add experience to Liverpool's squad in a summer that will see Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson leave the club.

Frimpong and Bradley have both had spells on the treatment table this term — and the latter suffered a serious knee injury in January, which ended his season.

Meanwhile, clarity over the future of Ibrahima Konate is reported to be imminent.

Football reporter Ben Jacobs wrote on the social media platform X that it should soon become apparent whether Konate will be a Liverpool player next season.

Konate is set to become a free agent as things stand, with his contract due to expire at the end of June.

After the Merseyside derby in April, Konate said that he was likely to extend his contract at Anfield: “There is a big chance I’m here next season. This is what I always wanted.

"I’m waiting to sort the contract but when everything is sorted you will have to ask Richard [Hughes, Liverpool’s sporting director] what I said to him in September, November and he’s going to say something to make everyone quiet.”

The Guardian then reported that Konate had informed Liverpool last year that he wanted to stay at the club, but there have been few updates on the Frenchman's future since then.
