Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has once again refused to give a clear answer about his future – even after delivering one of the biggest moments of the club’s season.
The Brazilian scored the winner against Crystal Palace on the final day of the Premier League campaign, helping Arsenal complete the title-winning season in style after ending a 22-year wait for the trophy.
And yet, despite the celebrations, the uncertainty around him continues.
Over the last few weeks, Gabriel Jesus has repeatedly spoken about his dreams of returning to Brazil one day and even showed some discomfort with Arsenal’s style of play.
Now, after lifting the Premier League title, he still sounds like a player keeping every possible option open.
“The future belongs to God”
Speaking to ESPN Brazil after the win over Crystal Palace, Gabriel Jesus admitted the situation has not been easy.
“A lot is said about my future and I’m very honest. It’s not easy for a player who always wants to evolve and help on the pitch with what’s been happening.”
This season was heavily disrupted by injury. When he returned, he mostly played behind Viktor Gyökeres in the attacking hierarchy.
Still, Gabriel Jesus believes he proved people wrong after recovering from a serious injury.
“When I came back, many people thought I would return slowly and take longer. But from the first Champions League match, I came back fully, without fear, and played most of the games.”
He also repeatedly highlighted the mental side of the process.
“It’s not easy mentally. I had resilience while respecting the coach.”
Still trying to prove himself
Then came the key line.
“The future belongs to God. I still have one year left on my Arsenal contract. I want to play and prove to myself that I can still play at a high level.”
Gabriel Jesus sounded almost defensive at times during the interview, especially when discussing his level after injury.
“Today I could have scored two or three more goals. That shows me I’m still a player capable of performing at a high level even after such a serious injury.”
That probably explains why his future remains so open.
The player still believes he has more to give. Arsenal have still not fully clarified their long-term plans.
Arsenal pressure and Champions League focus
The Brazilian also defended Arsenal when asked about the pressure surrounding the club during the title race.
“It’s not easy. We’re talking about the most competitive league in the world.”
He pointed to the emotional weight surrounding Arsenal’s title chase after more than two decades without winning the Premier League.
“Competing against a team that has been winning without as much pressure as us, after 22 years, with so many great players who couldn’t do it before, naturally brings pressure.”
Even after finally winning the title, he made clear the squad’s focus is already shifting towards the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.
“Now it’s time to celebrate the Premier League properly. From Monday and Tuesday onwards, it’s all about PSG.”
