Who will lead the sporting side
The paper mentioned that the vision for the coach is to have someone who prioritises playing well and not just the result. This has led to a shortlist topped by Andoni Iraola but also feature Xavi and a couple of other interesting names.
As with the dug out, a shortlist of names is already in place for the director position. Txiki Begiristain, a former striker like Ibrahimovic, is highly regarded. He was the transfer boss for Barcelona from 2003 to 2010 (he bought Zlatan from Inter) and for Manchester City from 2012 to 2024.
Begiristain played a key role in Pep Guardiola’s early coaching career, bringing him not only to the first-team bench in Catalonia, but also recruiting him in England. He’s now a free agent, and in Ibra’s eyes, he’d be the ideal man to develop a top-flight project in Italy as well.
Ramon Planes – currently at Al-Ittihad – is also admired. Another name already in the mix is Viktor Bezhani, the current sporting director of Toulouse. The Italian options are more low-key, including Fabio Paratici, currently at Fiorentina but sought after one year ago by Ibrahimovic.
