The future of Inaki Pena at FC Barcelona remains uncertain. The goalkeeper is under contract with the Blaugrana until 30 June 2029 following the extension agreement signed in August 2025, prior to his loan move to Elche.
With the La Liga season now over, Pena will soon be back at Barça without a clear pathway for his future ahead of the summer window.
Meeting to take place
As such, Mundo Deportivo reports that a meeting with Barcelona to clarify Pena’s future is expected to take place in the coming days.

The Catalans have not yet communicated any decision to the player, while the goalkeeping situation remains one of the issues the club still need to resolve.
Indeed, the reigning La Liga champions must now determine the composition of their goalkeeping department.
The club still need to decide whether Wojciech Szczesny will remain as the second-choice goalkeeper, and whether Diego Kochen, Ander Astralaga or Aron Yaakobishvili will be included in future plans, and consequently what role awaits Pena.
Not an ideal season at Pena
After several seasons alternating between substitute roles and occasional appearances with Barcelona’s first team, Pena moved to Elche on loan with the aim of securing regular playing time and becoming the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

However, he was exposed in several matches in which Elche struggled defensively. His average of goals conceded per match stood at approximately 1.7, a relatively high figure.
His season was also affected by competition from Matias Dituro. Elche manager Eder Sarabia initially rotated both goalkeepers, but during the decisive stages of the campaign he ultimately selected Dituro as his fixed first-choice option.
As such, Pena ended the season with 16 La Liga appearances, accumulating 1,440 minutes during the season. He conceded 28 goals while keeping four clean sheets.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 27-year-old shot-stopper, who is on the radars of AFC Ajax.
