Chelsea meet with Newcastle to discuss signing Bruno Guimaraes, potential swap deal incoming

Chelsea have spoken to Newcastle United regarding a number of their top players this summer, with midfielder Bruno Guimaraes being mentioned.

The Blues are expected to be in the market for a new midfielder this season if they have to replace Enzo Fernandez this summer.

The Argentine seemed to say goodbye to Chelsea supporters following their defeat to Sunderland on the final day of the season, and is keen to leave the club this summer.

Chelsea discuss signing Bruno Guimaraes

Finding a goalscorer from the middle of the park will be important, and only two midfielders scored more goals than Bruno Guimaraes this season, one of whom being Fernandez.

This came in just 29 appearances too, and it looks as if he has cropped up on the radar of Chelsea ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Simon Phillips has claimed on his Substack that Chelsea have spoken to their Premier League rivals over signing five of their players, one of whom being Guimaraes.

He said: “Officials from Chelsea met with officials from Newcastle over the weekend to discuss FIVE players.

“As you know, Chelsea have an interest in Nick Woltemade, but at the moment Newcastle are keen to keep him. The other Newcastle player you know about is Lewis Hall, and our sources can confirm that Hall was discussed once again over the weekend – Chelsea are very keen to try and get him in to replace Marc Cucurella, who is expected to depart this summer.

“But the other two players Chelsea asked about was Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes.”

Newcastle keen on two Chelsea players

With Chelsea’s need to sell this summer, it seems Newcastle have a number of those individuals on their agenda too.

Phillips went on to say that they are intrigued about the prospect of signing Liam Delap and Josh Acheampong, although the latter is only seen as available for a loan deal.

He said: “In these same conversations, Newcastle asked Chelsea about Liam Delap and Josh Acheampong. The latter is believed to be unavailable for sale by Chelsea this summer, only a loan move. Although the player is VERY unhappy with his lack of game time at the club this season.

“Newcastle are believed to be open to hearing offers for both Tonali and Bruno G. On Hall, we are still unclear what the club stance and the player stance is. So time will tell on that one.

“If anything was to happen with any of these potential deals, Chelsea might need to be willing to sell a player or two to Newcastle as part of the unofficial swap deals.”
