Chelsea pushing hard to sign£60m Premier League midfielder

Chelsea already had a lot of work to do coming into this summer transfer window. And now, with several of their key starters potentially heading for the exit door, things might have gotten even more hectic for BlueCo and incoming manager Xabi Alonso. Midfield might be one area in particular need of attention with Enzo Fernandez looking likely to leave.

Fernandez has arguably been Chelsea’s best player this season. He has scored 15 goals and provided seven assists while playing mostly as a central midfielder. That type of output is hard to replace. Then there are his leadership qualities.

If Fernandez does leave, with Manchester City being heavily linked right now, Chelsea would be losing a lot while strengthening a direct rival. On the other hand, it looks like they have set their sights on a Bournemouth midfielder.

According to a report, Chelsea are pushing hard for Alex Scott. Talks are ramping up, and the Bournemouth midfielder is now a serious option at Stamford Bridge.

How much do Bournemouth want to let Alex Scott move?

Bournemouth want a transfer fee in the region of £60-65 million for Scott’s exit. The midfielder has two years left on his deal.

Bournemouth’s ability to find talents that end up at top clubs needs to be appreciated. They have immense in developing players, moving them on and then quickly replacing them as well.

Scott looks like the next big thing to come out of Bournemouth. That being said, the links to the midfielder might leave a lot of Chelsea fans a bit worried about the entire situation as well.

Why Alex Scott links might worry Chelsea fans

Coming into this summer transfer window, there has been a lot of talk about Chelsea signing experienced and Premier League-proven players. But if the club bring in Scott to replace Fernandez, would that satisfy the supporters.

Scott is 22 years of age and only has one year of experience as a regular starter in the English top flight. Does that fit the definition of a Premier League-proven player in the eyes of BlueCo? If so, then fans and the ownership have very different ambitions for this summer transfer window.

Now, that is not me saying that Scott could not turn out to be a good signing for Chelsea. He very well might. But, it is just a criticism of the transfer targets that the club might have in the first place. Not much has changed if this is what we will be doing.
