Miserable home form sees Everton match lowest-ever Premier League stat

Everton have completed their first season at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees did not prove to be a strong unit in home matches.

Poor home form severely blew their chances for European football.

Everton ended their first home campaign at Hill Dickinson Stadium with a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Sunderland.

The Premier League run-in showed a Toffees’ side that was poor at both home and away, but their biggest disappointments came on the banks of the River Mersey.

A late loss against Liverpool derailed their season, and conceding in the 96th minute to Manchester City, after holding a deserved 3-1 lead, let three precious points slip away.

It was a home campaign to forget for the Blues as it has gone down as one of their worst in history.

One of the worst home campaigns on record

Everton started life at Hill Dickinson Stadium in ideal fashion with a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

They followed this up with a routine Carabao Cup victory against Mansfield Town but their form started to dip from there.

David Moyes’ men finished their campaign with six home Premier League victories, five draws and eight losses.

Meaning they averaged 1.21 points per game, with the club only recording a lower average in only four previous seasons, according to EFC Statto.

On top of their poor form at the back end of the season, the Toffees also failed to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United in home matches, even though they all finished beneath the Blues.

Teething issues or just a poor Everton team?

There was no doubt that there would be teething issues following Everton’s move to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

And in the fallout of some disappointing home displays, shouts were made about the new ground, and its ‘lack of soul’.

But the Blues’ worst home campaign only occurred three seasons ago during 2022-23, which highlights that Everton’s issues go beyond what stadium they call home.

In essence, the Toffees have not been playing well on their own turf for numerous seasons now, with four of the worst campaigns coming in the past six seasons.

Poor home form shows a side that is severely lacking in quality, and when this Everton side, as well as ones in the past, have had the onus to take the game to the opposition, they have crumbled and succumbed to disappointing results.

Atmospheres against Brighton, City and Chelsea show that Hill Dickinson Stadium is a world class footballing arena that the Toffees can call home, but it is dire need of a team that can even show glimpses of putting in world class performances.
