Barcelona can re-sign former La Masia winger for around €7m as release clause drops after…

According to SPORT, RCD Mallorca’s relegation from La Liga has significantly simplified the potential departure of former FC Barcelona winger Jan Virgili, one of the most sought-after players in the club’s squad.

The Blaugrana have been keeping a close eye on the former La Masia talent after having sold him to Mallorca last summer.

The deal was completed for €3.5 million, while Barcelona retained 40 per cent of any future transfer fee and also secured a right of first refusal.

Release clause drops

With Barcelona in the market for a left-winger, Virgili has been touted as a possible target, leading to rumours of a potential return in the summer.

Following Mallorca’s relegation, SPORT reports that the winger’s release clause has dropped dramatically from €30 million to €12 million, thanks to a specific condition included in his contract.

this contractual change carries particular significance for Barcelona. Given the club’s retained 40 per cent stake in a future sale and their right of first refusal, Barcelona could potentially re-sign him for a fee close to €7 million.

A bargain option?

Barcelona are keen on strengthening the left flank but there are doubts about the permanent signing of Marcus Rashford as the club are reluctant to shell out the €30 million purchase fee.

Virgili, in that sense, could be a bargain alternative for the Blaugrana. The 19-year-old winger had enjoyed an impressive season in 2024/25 at the club, with the Juvenil A and Barça Atletic teams.

In his debut season with Mallorca, the Spanish winger showed a lot of promise, finishing with two goals and six assists.

Only 19 years old, familiar with the club’s style, and available for around €7 million, Virgili could emerge as a potential cost-effective addition for Barcelona this summer.
