According to Tuttomercatoweb journalist Marco Conterio, Arsenal have now opened talks over a potential move for Tonali.
It is understood that both clubs are currently discussing the structure and financial details of a possible deal.
Previous reports have claimed that Newcastle would demand a fee in the region of £100m to part ways with the midfielder this summer.
Alongside Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid are all believed to be interested in Tonali ahead of the transfer window.
The midfielder’s current contract runs until the summer of 2028.
