Enzo Fernandez continues to be linked with a Chelsea exit ahead of Xabi Alonso's arrival and the summer transfer window opening. The Argentine has been linked to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid in the wake of controversial comments about his future.

Premier League champions Arsenal have also been credited with an interest, but have since been told to look elsewhere. Manchester City is potentially another destination as Fernandez's former head coach Enzo Maresca looks set to replace Pep Guardiola.

The Blues have also been involved in the managerial merry-go-round recently, with Alonso their third permanent head coach this year as he set to take charge from the 2026/27 season. It is currently unclear whether the Spaniard wants to keep Fernandez in west London.

The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes of his side's defeat to Sunderland on the final day of the Premier League season and appeared to wave goodbye to the Chelsea away fans at full-time. With all of that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest updates on Fernandez's future.

Alonso stance

The Sun have claimed that there are mixed messages about just how keen Alonso is to keep Fernandez at Chelsea. Their report has added that he is likely to be worth £70million after three-and-a-half years of amortisation from the £106million fee paid in January 2023.

For the Blues to consider selling, recouping close to what they agreed to pay Benfica will likely be the aim.

Arsenal rumours

Fernandez is being closely monitored by the Gunners, according to a report from Teamtalk earlier this month, with a view to bolstering their midfield department.

It has also been stated that an enquiry was made by Arsenal, who have signed Kai Havertz and Noni Madueke among others from Chelsea in recent years, for Fernandez but that he will not be making the switch.

Transfer verdict

Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin has issued a clear Fernandez to Arsenal verdict with some brutally honest points made.

Speaking to Grosvenor Casinos, he said: "I don’t know why they would look at Enzo. With what they have got there, where would he play? Is he better than Martin Odegaard? Is he better than Eze? Even Kai Havertz.

"Kai is a fabulous player. He is not always the most fashionable looking player for people in English football. But his numbers when he's fit are brilliant. And he tends to score important goals.

"I've watched Enzo. In a 4-2-3-1, he has to one of those three. But he’s not going to be one of those wide ones. No chance. And he’s not going to be one of the second two. Obviously Declan is there and that is not what Fernandez is good at.

"There's only one position. It's the 10. I’m just now sure that is what Arsenal needs really. That move would be one that would really surprise me."

Chelsea gesture

Following the final match of a disastrous season for Chelsea, Fernandez and his team-mates made their way over to the Stadium of Light away end after losing to Sunderland.

While others applauded, the World Cup winner was captured clearly waving towards supporters in an action that could be interpreted as his farewell.

Given the speculation surrounding him, it was certainly an interesting gesture to make with many theorising it could be him saying his goodbyes.
