Arsenal start talks to sign £100m star in blockbuster deal, he'd be their new Saka - opinion

The joy on Bukayo Saka's face as he walked up to collect his Premier League winner's medal will live long in the memory. The Arsenal winger has been there since the start of Mikel Arteta's reign and this felt like vindication for all of the faith the Spaniard has shown in him.

Saka and Arteta have been right at the forefront of this project. We're six and a half years deep now but the title is finally theirs.

Hats off to the Kroenkes too. After consecutive eighth placed finishes, it would have been easy to send Arteta packing. Instead, they only increased the expenditure, welcoming the likes of Declan Rice and Viktor Gyokeres to the club in two marquee additions of the last three years.

The manager has been backed and then some. Now, he's finally repaid those above him. Arsenal are champions of England for the first time in 22 years and could yet walk away with the Champions League too.

It has given the Gunners an almighty level freedom in the transfer market. Get ready, this could be a big one.

Arsenal enter talks to sign £100m Premier League star

If you thought last summer was exciting, then this summer could be even more dazzling on the transfer front.

Andrea Berta's first window ended with a shed load being spent. Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi and Gyokeres all arrived as headline additions. There was also room for Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christhian Mosquera, Piero Hincapie and Christian Norgaard.

It added a vast amount of depth to the club's ranks and it's ultimately got them over the line, particularly when they were dealing with injury after injury.

Now, you sense, will be about adding genuine quality. There will surely be an attempt to raise the ceiling of the squad, rather than the floor.

Arsenal's most expensive signings of all time

The Gunners have spent generously in recent years.

In a bid to do just that, talkSPORT claim the Gunners are targeting Aston Villa's star man, Morgan Rogers.

According to the report, Arsenal are 'ready to step up their interest' in the player with Arteta personally leading the charge to prise him away from Villa Park.

It's further noted that preliminary talks have already taken place between Arsenal and Rogers' camp to understand the conditions of what it might take to tempt him to north London.

Arsenal face competition from Chelsea and Manchester United while he could cost a fair whack. It's noted that Villa value Rogers at a minimum of £80m, although the price tag could reach as high as £100m.

Why Rogers could be Arsenal's new Saka

Where would Arsenal be without Saka, eh? While his importance was not as great in 2025/26, one has to argue that had he not emerged from the Hale End academy, Arteta may not have lasted to see in this Premier League triumph.

Saka-Gabriel

The England international has been at the centre of everything good the club have done since the Spaniard became manager, notably scoring as many as 21 goals back in 2023/24.

While he has not quite hit the same dizzy heights since then, he is still their best player, and a player they can rely on to produce a moment of magic out of nowhere.

As good as Arsenal are, truthfully, they do not have many players like that. Their success has been built on defensive solidity. It's been build on the powerhouse that is Declan Rice and it's been built on set-pieces.

In the forward line, there is plenty more to come and in the form of Rogers, they could reach new heights. Like Saka, he's a dual threat, someone capable of scoring and creating in equal measure.

Like Saka, he's also got the tools to play out wide and through the middle.

Arsenal's number 7 has not played as an attacking midfielder on too many occasions but he did score against Wolves earlier this season when selected as a 10. His primary role has been on the right.

As for Rogers, he's a particularly dangerous threat off the left flank. In total this season, the England international scored 14 goals and registered 12 assists. Five goals and four assists came when he was played on the left while the remaining eight goals and eight assists came from when he played centrally.

A dynamic forward player, there are not many better attackers in the Premier League right now than the Villa star. He's brilliant in the pockets and would represent a big upgrade on the likes of Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze.

Odegaard ended an injury-hit campaign by lifting the title but he only scored once in 35 matches. Eze, on the other hand, scored ten in all competitions but five of those came in two games against Spurs. Those moments were euphoric but he endured some really barren spells after arriving from Crystal Palace.

A former PFA Young Player of the Year just like Saka, Rogers is really delivering consistent results right now. Only last season the 23-year-old scored 14 goals and picked up 16 assists. That's two years in a row now where the World Cup bound forward has delivered double figures across the two most important metrics.

As a result, if you put that into an Arsenal team who were not always free-flowing in 2025/26, and you'd immediately have a better team.
