Everton’s interest in Kévin Boma may have gone quiet after his long injury layoff. However, the defender has now received a sign that his recovery is heading in the right direction ahead of the summer market.
The Estoril centre-back has been called up by Togo for their June training camp and friendlies against Central African Republic and Benin.
Both A Bola and Record in Portugal cover the selection. This selection comes only weeks after his return from a muscle injury. That injury kept him out for more than three months.
That is relevant for Everton because the last update around Boma from Portugal suggested the injury had effectively cooled interest from January.
The 23-year-old had been linked with Everton, Beşiktaş, Paris FC and Augsburg before suffering the setback in February.
Now, however, there is finally movement again around his situation.
Return from injury brings encouragement
Record explain Kévin Boma was sidelined between January 31st and May 10th because of a muscle injury in his right leg. Since returning, he has managed only 62 minutes across appearances against Alverca and Benfica.
Despite that limited game time, Togo manager Patrice Neveu has still included him in the squad for the upcoming camp in Morocco.
That alone feels significant given how uncertain the situation looked in April. At the time, reports in Portugal suggested Everton’s interest had naturally faded while the player focused on recovery.
Boma still ended the season with 23 appearances, 20 starts, one goal and one assist for Ian Cathro’s side. Across two seasons at Estoril, he has played 53 matches, scoring twice.
The defender originally joined the Portuguese side from Rodez in 2024 for around €250,000 (£210,000). Estoril now see him as one of their major assets ahead of the summer window.
Everton situation worth watching again
Everton never pushed through a deal in January, but they were repeatedly mentioned in Portuguese reporting during that window… And now again.
His contract runs until 2028. However, this summer still feels important for Estoril if they want to maximise value. Transfermarkt currently values him at €6m (£5.1m). Although, Portuguese clubs would almost certainly seek more after the attention generated earlier this year.
Fair to say Togo also failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, something which could quietly suit Everton if they retain interest in Boma. This could benefit Everton as it removes the possibility of the defender suddenly performing under the biggest spotlight in football and driving his price even higher.
The key issue for any interested club will now be physical confidence. Togo’s decision to call him up suggests there is growing belief he is finally moving beyond the injury concerns which interrupted his momentum at exactly the wrong time.
If Everton still like the player, the coming weeks could become important again.
