Chelsea agree to let Enzo Maresca signing leave after face-to-face meeting

Chelsea are braced for a major summer shake-up in their goalkeeping department after one player personally demanded an immediate exit from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s goalkeeping hierarchy presents an intriguing puzzle for incoming manager Xabi Alonso to solve this summer. Robert Sanchez currently holds the upper hand to retain the number-one jersey, having put together a highly encouraging string of performances to close out the campaign.

However, a fascinating wildcard lies in highly rated 20-year-old Mike Penders, who is set to return to Stamford Bridge following a highly progressive loan spell with sister-club Strasbourg. Penders’ return gives the recruitment team a massive incentive to save their transfer budget, but the risk is there.

But they may have no choice, as Filip Jorgensen looks to be on his way out.

Filip Jorgensen asks to leave Chelsea

In a bit of surprise news, the BBC are reporting that Filip Jorgensen has requested to leave Chelsea after a face-to-face meeting with the club.

The Blues had previously rejected his desire to leave in January but are more open to his exit now.

And the reasoning for wanting to leave is down to a lack of game time.

Interest was registered in the last transfer window by Besiktas, Genoa and Porto. While wider Premier League interest is also expected, but no move is understood to be close.

Filip Jorgensen’s costly mistakes

Filip Jorgensen’s campaign was summed up by his distribution errors that ultimately cost him his spot after being given the opportunity as Chelsea’s number one.

The lowest point came during a crucial Champions League round-of-16 first leg against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. With the match finely poised at 2-2, Jorgensen committed a catastrophic passing error under pressure, playing the ball directly to Bradley Barcola.

The mistake allowed Vitinha to clinically lob the stranded goalkeeper, triggering a brutal late collapse that resulted in a 5-2 defeat and heavily alienated the Stamford Bridge faithful.
