Since the BlueCo takeover, Chelsea have heavily focused on signing youngsters. On some occasions, it has worked out and these players have been able to meet expectations. Or at least come close. But most of the time, they have fallen far short of them. That is why the Blues are currently miles behind where they need to be.
Despite spending close to two billion pounds since the takeover, Chelsea finished 10th this season. They did not win any form of silverware either. Three out of the four seasons under BlueCo have been outright failures.
Unfortunately, it looks like things are not panning out as expected for another one of Chelsea’s youngsters. That is none other than Kendry Paez.
He has struggled for the last few years. And it looks like another one of his spells could be cut short. According to Ben Jacobs, meetings will take place in the coming weeks to discuss whether to cut short Paez’s River Plate loan. No decision has been taken yet, but it is understand that it will be discussed this summer even though the deal runs until the end of the year.
Kendry Paez’s loan spell could be cut short
Paez was sent out on loan to sister club Strasbourg last summer. He looked promising early on but those his place in first-team plans along the way.
There were also some reports about Paez being unprofessional at the time. Whether accurate or not, eventually, his loan spell was cut short.
Instead, he was sent to River Plate on loan. It was thought that developing in a South American league would be easier for him. But once again, things have not been much better.
Now, it looks like his River Plate loan spell could be cut short as well. And after that, it is hard to see where Paez’s career goes.
Where has it gone wrong for Chelsea wonderkid?
Nobody could have predicted how things would turn out for Paez. Not too long ago, he was considered one of the brightest talents in South American football.
He was a regular for the Ecuador national team before he was 18 years of age. And he also was seen as someone who was more first-team-ready for Chelsea than Estevao.
To be fair, he has been facing some issues even going back to his time at Independiente del Valle. Paez might just be one of those youngsters who is never going to make it at the top level.
It remains to be seen how things go from here. But it would not be a surprise if Chelsea just give up on him in the near future if things do not improve quickly.
